Office of the Chief of Police
Hi. I hope you are enjoying the new website for GSPD as much as
I have enjoyed seeing it developed. This project was undertaken
by progressive Officer Matt Gronbeck in particular, of our
department with the assistance of both City and local experts -
thanks Bruce and Brett! The approach was to design a website
that was educational, functional, and beneficial to our
community in every way possible. I believe it will accomplish
these goals. Since before I arrived at GSPD in 1984, hired as
the Dog Catcher, the Department has embraced a philosophy of
helping others and problem solving. Chief Halbert told us that
no one should ever hear the phrase "there's nothing we can do"
from one of his Officers.
It has been
my privilege to work with the fine men and women of GSPD for
many years, and try to carry on the tradition of public service
established for me by Bob Halbert, Don Williams, Bencie Baros,
and many others. Since graduating from the FBI National Academy
and being promoted to Chief of Police in 1995, our town has
grown by leaps and bounds. Our challenges are ever-increasing in
both number and complexity, but the philosophy of being there to
help others when needed will never change. This website
symbolizes for me the ability of our young Officers to translate
the mission of the GSPD that I have lived with into the
"language" of a new generation. I am proud to know that the GSPD
team is ready, willing and able to provide whatever assistance
our community and visitors need to keep Glenwood Springs a
wonderful place to live and play.
